After a two year hiatus and a handful of personal projects, Charles Kelley, Hilary Scott and Dave Haywood have reunited to bring us their new album, Heartbreak. Along with it is a single and tour entitled, “You Look Good.” Teaming up with them on road are two singers who hold their own, Brett Young and Kelsea Ballerini.
As the founder of the clothing brand Caliville, Young took a chance on himself after the door closed on his baseball career. Lucky for us, Young has a voice to share, and a melody to accompany it! While fans started to make their way to their seats, Young didn’t hesitate to swoon the early birds! Singing his latest singles, “In Case You Didn’t Know” and “Sleep Without You.”
Tennessee native, Ballerini kicked off her set with her first three singles on country radio. The almost 24 year old, teased us with tracks from her upcoming sophomore album, Legends and the self titled track, Unapologetically. If the rest of the album was as good as the ones we heard that night (and for the rest of the tour), we are all in for a treat!
The recharged Lady Antebellum took the stage in a theatrical jazz “battle”. The trio appeared in their own light boxes. Lady A began the night with their single, Downtown, Our Kind of Love, and other songs from earlier in their career to remind us of when we all first fell in love with their unique vocal dynamic. Kelley took a second to pay homage to the late Gary Allman. Fulfilling a promise he made that night to Allman Brother’s manager, Bert Holman, Kelley covered Allman Brother’s “Midnight Rider” and there wasn’t a dry eye in the place! As the night continued, Lady A brought out a few special guests to help them pull off some covers.
With the help of Brett Young the boys of Lady A sang their rendition of Tim McGraw’s 90’s hit, “Something Like That.” Then the girls brought the fire! Hilary Scott and Kelsea Ballerini teamed up in matching denim jackets and dark outfits and swinging hips to their cover of Beyonce’s Crazy In Love. But most of the concert goers at PNC Banks Art Center that night seemed to be most surprised when Kevin Jonas from the Jonas Brothers, took stage riffing his guitar alongside with Haywood!
Even though the You Look Good tour is half way through, make sure you don’t miss a stop near you! If the New Jersey show any indication, there’s more surprises to come!
