At just 17, Eloah Jones is already making remarkable strides as an aspiring singer/songwriter determined to leave an imprint in the industry. Towards the end of last year, she debuted her first single, “Soldier.” Unknowingly at the the time, Eloah took the late Carrie Fisher’s wise words of wisdom by taking her broken heart, and turning it into art. Eloah has much to look forward to this year as she will continue working hard creating new music and seeing where this adventure will take her. We got to chat with her about her current single, self discovery while creating music, her goals, and what in store for this year.
Hey Eloah! How are you? Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am a 17 year old Texas native. I live in a small town about 45 minutes from Austin, called Johnson City Texas. I’ve loved to sing and act ever since I was little. I also am very active and love sports, especially softball and cross country.
Tell us about how your first single “Soldier” came about?
In 2016, I went through a really bad break up. After two years, I got cheated on, and it was awful. It made me very insecure and it made me question my worth. Nothing seemed to help me feel better, so I took to writing. To heal myself & others as well.
What is your favorite aspect of creating or working on a new piece/project?
My favorite part about working on new projects is trying to one-up my last one! Each project I do, I want it to be better than the last.
What have you discovered about yourself in the process of creating music?
I’ve discovered that I’m a very creative writer, and that I can achieve anything. When I’m in a slump, I don’t give up till I’ve got something!
What has been the most challenging thing so far?
The most challenging thing about music is probably criticism. Every once in awhile I’ll hear things people say, stuff that’s not so nice. But I’ve learned to not listen and do what I love despite what people say. I love what I do and I’m proud of myself, and who I am so that’s all that matters!
What has been the most rewarding thing so far?
The most rewarding thing is having people come up to me, and tell me that my song helped them through a tough time. That is my goal. I want people to hear my music and learn from it. I want to be able to heal broken hearts, because no one deserves to be broken!
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Writing new music, live performances, and traveling!
What are your long term and short term goals?
My long term goal is to maybe get picked up by a national act, and maybe open up for their concerts. My short term goal is to eventually have a full album!
What do you want people to take away from your music?
To be yourself, stand up for yourself, and love yourself. Life is tough, for everyone. There’s always gonna be someone hating on you, there’s always gonna be someone who wants to see you fail, there’s always gonna be someone who talks behind your back, so just do you! Don’t worry about what anyone else has to say. You’re amazing the way God made you, never change!
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
“It’s better to have less friends that are genuine, than more friends who are not.” I can’t sit here and say I’ve never talked bad about someone else, because everyone is guilty of that. There was a point in my life where I put myself around the wrong people, which led me to talk down on others, because I wanted everyone to like me. Once I saw what was happening I distanced myself immediately. I can count the amount of true friends I have on one hand, and I’m content with that because I know they’ll always be there for me. Popularity is for mediocre people. The amount of people that like you is not what’s important. Be yourself, your true friends will love you for you.
Which artists inspire you?
Selena Gomez, banks, and Lana Del Rey are a few of my favorites! They’re all amazing, and so unique. Their music is real. I aspire to be that kind of artist.
What is your favorite song and album at the moment and why?
My favorite song at the moment is “Gemini Feed” by Banks. And my favorite album is Banks’ new one she put out a few months back called The Altar. LOVE her!
How has the support from your friends and family helped you along your journey?
Their support has helped me immensely. It’s nice knowing I have people supporting me no matter what. The town I live in is very small, and everyone is like family, which is nice. I love hearing all the kind words from everyone, it makes me love what I do even more!
When was the moment you knew you wanted to do this for a living?
I knew I wanted to do this for a living the moment I started! So around age 11. I wanna have a job that I’m excited about! I don’t wanna wake up and think “Ugh, I have to go to work!” I wanna love my job.
Do you recall your earliest memory involving music?
I was about 10, I came home from school and found karaoke tracks on YouTube, and that’s when I started loving to sing!
What can fans expect from you this year?
They can expect new music, and hopefully some live performances. 2017 will definitely be a productive year for me!
