Coldplay kicked off their North American leg of the A Head Full of Dreams Tour with two dates at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey over the weekend. Foxes got the evening started with songs off her latest album, All I Need and her hit single with Zedd, “Clarity.” Alessia Cara’s set included her latest single “Scars To Your Beautiful” and her first hit single “Here” all off her debut album Know It All.
Coldplay’s show begins with a warm welcome from fan submitted videos from across the globe sending love from their native countries. Coldplay did not wait for the night to end to pull out all the stops for their set. From the moment the show starts with the tour titled track, “A Head Full of Dreams” they put those confetti cannons and fireworks display to use at full force. One of the best elements of the production of the show is the interactive light up bracelets that sync to the music, making you a part of the show.
The set list included songs throughout their entire career, from their current album A Head Full of Dreams to their debut album Parachutes, which was released in 2000. Fans were treated to the hits such as, “Clocks,” “Viva La Vida,” “Yellow,” and “Paradise.” They paid tribute to those who are no longer with us, such as David Bowie, by covering “Heroes.” During one transition, old video footage of Muhammad Ali in an interview was shown.
Towards the end of the set, the band took a moment to take a request from Instagram. That evening, it was from front man Chris Martin’s son. He asked that he play a song from “the greatest movie of all time.” What followed was a surprise rendition of “Earth Angel” and a few moments into the tune, Martin introduces Michael J Fox to join them on stage with a guitar in hand sending the crowd into a frenzy. The crowd was so delighted they followed up “Johnny B. Goode.”
The encore kept the party going with even more confetti and fireworks during “A Sky Full of Stars” and “Up&Up.”
