Amid the bleak weather last week in New York City, that didn’t stop people from heading out Friday evening and selling out Irving Plaza to see Ben Rector perform at this stop on his “Brand New” tour. Opening act, Judah and The Lion certainly warmed things up with their fun set which included songs from their EP, “Kids These Days” and incorporated fun covers of hits such as, “We Built This City,” and “Ignition,” as well as a choreographed dance bit. These guys sure know how to have a good time and party.
Ben Rector kicked off his set with songs off his “Brand New” album such as “Make Something Beautiful,” “Brand New,” and “Favorite Song.” Within the first few songs, Rector showed off his array of talents not only vocally, but on the guitar and piano as well. His band was also incredibly vibrant and passionate, fusing strong together on stage. Rector’s set list included old tunes as well such as, “When A Heart Breaks,” and “Forever Like That.” The night ended on a high note with a dance party featuring a disco ball and an encore including “Sailboat,” and “White Dress.”
